Knowledge synthesis and research communication for the Collaborative One Health Research Initiative on Epidemics
Human Element Communications provided science communication support to the IDRC’s Collaborative One Health Research Initiative on Epidemics (COHRIE).
COHRIE involved four locally led research teams across nine countries in Latin America and sub-Saharan Africa, focusing on how One Health approaches can strengthen epidemic prevention, preparedness, and response.
Brendon Bosworth worked closely with the research teams to synthesize findings and communicate key research and project impacts to key audiences.
Work included:
Facilitating in-person and online knowledge synthesis sessions
Ran an in-person workshop session with the research teams and IDRC to identify core cross-project findings and opportunities to communicate project impact as part of a knowledge synthesis workshop in Cape Town.
Facilitated a series of online knowledge synthesis sessions, bringing the teams together to collaboratively develop the foundations for two cross-project journal articles, focused on community-based approaches to One Health and One Health through a gender lens, respectively.
Coordinating and editing academic articles for a special issue of the One Health journal
Performed pre-submission editorial reviews of manuscripts, improving readability and providing constructive feedback to strengthen clarity and accuracy. Access the published papers via the One Health journal.
Led the production of two cross-project journal articles, focused on community-based approaches to One Health and One Health through a gender lens, respectively.
Producing impact and research briefs to communicate key project findings

Running a science communication workshop and mock panel discussion to prepare researchers for World One Health Congress
Facilitated an online science communication training session covering the fundamentals of effective science communication to equip researchers with tools and strategies to communicate complex disease-related science in accessible language relevant to their local context.
Hosted a preparatory mock panel discussion for panelists at the World One Health Congress in Cape Town. Provided constructive feedback to strengthen key messages, storytelling, and key discussion points.
