LinkedIn for researchers workshops for MERLiA

These days, LinkedIn plays a big role in academics’ research communication toolkit. It’s a place to foster community, share research, and build online visibility.

At Human Element Communications, our LinkedIn for Researchers workshop is tailored for academics who want to make better use of the platform to build their online profiles and communicate their research for impact.

In August, Brendon Bosworth facilitated an online LinkedIn workshop for the team at the SARChI Mineral and Energy Resources Law in Africa (MERLiA) at the University of Cape Town.

The LinkedIn workshop built on previous research communication trainings (our op-ed writing short course and science communication training for blogging and writing for the media). These trainings supported MERLiA's research communication outreach and equipped the team to publish articles in Daily Maverick and The Conversation.

In the LinkedIn workshop, the team learned to optimise their profiles for impact, write engaging posts, build online community, and develop a personal LinkedIn strategy.

At Human Element Communications, we appreciate the positive feedback (see below) and are pleased to know that our workshop helped the team feel more confident and comfortable sharing their work and voice online.

“I joined this workshop because I wanted to understand LinkedIn better, and it exceeded my expectations. The sessions were well prepared, easy to follow, and gave me the confidence to start using the platform instead of just having a profile that sat there. Brendon explained everything in a practical way and made LinkedIn feel much less daunting. I would definitely recommend this workshop to anyone who wants to make better use of LinkedIn.”

- Ruegshana Ederies. Research & Finance Administrator, Faculty of Law, University of Cape Town.

“LinkedIn is now an approachable tool that I can use. These workshops helped me find my voice and learn how to share my worth to the world. I would highly recommend early career researchers to use courses like this to better understand and control their public persona.”
